Well, the design I have shown you earlier actually will not have nothing in common with the final design. Today I'll show you the RTM version, here you go:

Soon we are going to introduce Pro Accounts. It will — I hope — come together with the completely new, fresh look of Wikidot.
Why?
First of all, current design does not fit to my personal vision of marketing of WD. Main site should spur to create an account by affecting user's first impression about the page. This is the main reason why the main site will look very fresh and clean. Although it has to give the feeling of solidity and reliability.
The current main site is too much overloaded with the content. There are some unnecessary elements such as recent edits and some of the elements could be organized in a better way than now, giving much more space and latitude and making the whole impression much lighter.

I am not totally convinced about all the elements of the new design, some of them needs to be redesigned and trimmed.
The biggest challenge would be to force the main page to work well under all web browsers, especially when I would like to insert some new, eye-candy and functional features such as folded lists and custom image map links (it's probably impossible to do, so I would have to figure something out in the CSS style and page layout). Of course there will be no flash elements and annoying pop-ups, we're not "ad-friendly" mass portal.
I truly hate an aggressive advertising, such as annoying pop-ups, cross (click to exit) running out from under the cursor and — what I disapprove the most — flash adverts with sound, which — when you have multiple tabs opened and you don't know where the sound comes from — are making me really irritated.
Nevertheless, advertising practice on common web pages is a different topic for another post.
