There's a lot happening recently in Wikidot. Michał is finalizing the payments and giving the last shines to new features available soon. New theme of the main page is done in 98%. We need to do only minor corrections and it will be free to go. We want to release this new theme officially next week.
The most important thing I wanted to say is about my idea, a new look on the theme case. Now new users have only few themes from default list (to be honest they are not too pretty). More advanced users could get know about themes.wikidot.com or make their own CSS styles. Nevertheless the whole look on the themes is not convenient neither for new users nor for advanced guru magicians :)
That's why I made a proposition of making general theme repository, available from Site Manager. You would say: "But there is a repository, there are even many themes we can choose from!". Yeah, you're right. But do you find these theme nice? Well, I'm not.
My proposition was approved by the team and I started to work on it. There will be a possibility to change the theme (general look, background, buttons etc.) and the color scheme. All these things should give a possibility to make almost infinitive number of combinations of theme and color scheme so everyone's site could differ in a more distinguished way.
In the Site Manager there will be a theme browser, so you could check how your site is going to look like. Or e.g. browse by color tags (I hope there will be 50+ themes in the nearest future, even before Christmas I think).
To make things uncomplicated all themes are based on one layout. 960px of width (looks fine on 1024x768 resolution). Every side-bar will have the same width. All to give opportunity to change the themes without screwing all the things on Site.
